I walked and camped some more of the Serpent Trail the other day with Jack until finally finishing in Petersfield. (The rest of the walk is on previous posts).
Although it’s actually quite a short-distance for a long-distance trail (65 miles – 106km snaking its way through parts of Surrey and Sussex and Hampshire) we are definitely making a meal of it and doing a fine job at spinning it out having already walked over 100 miles with added detours to look at this and that (and we still haven’t finished it). When we started it 2 years ago granny waved us off at the start. The second time we did a bit of it, granny sent us a text to be careful as we camped in a graveyard on top of a hill in a detonating storm with lightening and thunder crashing all around. The third time we did a section of the walk we veered off course to visit granny for tea and biscuits and to fill up our water bottles. The fourth time she sent me a text to say she was very confused where I was or what I was doing (she had dementia). And when we left this time, she was pushing up the daisies in our local churchyard.
